This breaks one of the "rules" of
composition. The far dock-side splits the frame almost exactly in half
horizontally. But of course that is the whole point. As I am sure the architect
intended, the factory (a printing works) is reminescent of an ocean liner, and
a symmetrical reflection is essential to the effect.
In reality there are no "rules" of
composition. The pictures come first, and they either work or they don't. The
so-called rules are just features that many successful pictures seem to
share.
